Pippaluk Crafts specialises in needle felted landscape pictures and kits.  Our individually created landscapes and coastal scenes are lovingly needle felted and feature many local beauty spots as well as some from further afield.  Each picture is totally unique although some scenes may be repeated.  Each picture is given a unique reference number (since July 2018).

Our most popular size comes in a chunky white box frame measuring 23 x 23 cm (picture size 13 x 13 cm approx.) and is designed to either hang or to be freestanding.  Because each picture is unique Every one is dated, titled and signed. There are also smaller framed pictures where the size of the needle felting is approximately 8.5 x 6.0 cm.  Miniature versions, also in box frames measuring 12 x 12 cm (picture size 5 x 5 cm approx.).

The process of needle felting involves the matting of wool fibres on to a backing fabric of felt by means of a barbed needle.  The fibres used are mainly of Merino wool specifically because they have a long and fine staple which gives a more accurate application for colour.  Tencel, Yak and Silk are also used as the different fibres produce different effects because they “felt” differently.  In short it is more like painting than embroidery or tapestry and produces a unique softened picture.  We spend a long time tracking down unusual colours and fibres to extend our colour pallete to produce work of as near a natural representation of our landscapes as possible.
